Mahershala Ali moves on from cancelled Blade movie
Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is officially closing the chapter on his association with Marvel Studios’ Blade, signaling a move toward new creative horizons. Following public expressions of frustration regarding the project’s execution, Ali has formally reiterated that he has moved on from the film, choosing to focus his attention on upcoming projects.
As he promotes his newest film at the Toronto International Film Festival, Ali shared a surprisingly lighthearted take on his history with the Marvel universe. He added a touch of sarcasm, expressing gratitude to Marvel for indirectly funding his next endeavors, turning a moment of industry commentary into a wry observation about the unpredictable nature of filmmaking.
Despite stepping away from the Marvel commitment, the threads connecting Ali’s career remain beautifully interwoven. His attachment to the world of vampires and action persisted when he met director Bassam Tariq. This connection blossomed into a fruitful collaboration, leading them to develop their own original movie.
The journey of Ali and Tariq, however, began even earlier. During the development phase for Blade, Ali participated in training for the lead role. That experience proved invaluable, providing a foundation that would later prove instrumental in the creation of his current cinematic work alongside Tariq.
