Maika Monroe Horror Sequel Update Fans Are Waiting
The chilling world of psychological horror is getting a major dose of life. After years of anticipation, the much-awaited sequel to the iconic film It Follows is finally moving into production, bringing a fresh, intense update for fans.
The good news for those who have been waiting is that principal photography has wrapped! Following the buzz surrounding the original film, filming for the sequel is complete, signaling that the next chapter in this haunting story is right around the corner.
At the heart of this highly anticipated project is Maika Monroe, who returns to the screen as Jay Height. She brings her signature presence back to the narrative as the story jumps forward a decade from the events of the first film, deepening the psychological landscape of the sequel.
The creative team behind the project is stacked with talent. Writer-director David Robert Mitchell is back in the driver’s seat, joined by a familiar crew, including cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, editor Julio C. Perez IV, and composer Disasterpeace, ensuring a high level of artistic quality for the sequel.
The new narrative direction promises something significantly different from the original. As Monroe shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, this sequel will be bigger, darker, and more intense. Instead of relying solely on stylized horror tropes, the film is expected to focus on the heavy mental struggles of the characters, anchored by a compelling ten-year time jump.
The ensemble cast is equally impressive, featuring additions like Naomi Ackie, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Gandolfini, and Melora Walters, alongside returning actor Keir Gilchrist, who reprises his role as Paul from the first movie.
This focus on grounded emotional depth suggests a maturation of the horror genre, shifting the focus from external, stylized scares to the internal, agonizing reality of mental distress. The result promises a deeply immersive experience that delves into complex character psychology.
While the filmmakers have delivered a major update on the production side, there is still no confirmed release date for this intense sequel. Fans are left waiting for the moment this dark and compelling vision hits the big screen.
