Mama Bear horror short released for Halloween

The horror landscape is buzzing, and Curry Barker is back with a fresh fright, proving that some of the most compelling cinematic worlds can be built in the smallest of packages. Following the success of his previous work, Barker has teamed up with Windows for a new short film titled Mama Bear, which has debuted exclusively on YouTube just in time for the Halloween season. Fans can dive into the unsettling new horror experience now.

Mama Bear marks a significant step in Barker’s career, showcasing the depth of talent that has propelled him into the realm of in-demand horror filmmakers. It allows longtime admirers to revisit the short-form horror style that first helped him build a devoted online audience.

Barker is the driving force behind the project, having handled the writing, direction, and editing of the short. The cast brings a compelling ensemble to the screen, featuring Jon Lee Richardson as Floyd, Katie Sarife as Lacey, Ericka Kreuz as Ms. Wilson, and Joshua Snyder playing Floyd’s terrifying Doppelgänger.

Before stepping into the world of feature films, Barker established his reputation through online horror projects like The Chair and Milk & Serial, released through his comedy channel, That’s a Bad Idea. These early ventures demonstrated how accessible, high-quality horror could successfully cultivate an audience far beyond traditional cinema.

The momentum generated by these projects has now translated into some incredibly ambitious plans for feature filmmaking. Barker is not slowing down, with major projects lined up that promise to shake up the industry. His next feature, Anything But Ghosts, is slated for release nationwide in 2027 from Focus Features, with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster involved. The story, co-written and directed by Barker with collaborator Cooper Tomlinson, follows a group of wannabe ghost hunters who quickly find themselves in an extremely dangerous situation.

Beyond his own projects, Barker has been tapped to take on massive studio opportunities. He is set to reimagine The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for A24, adding a layer of visceral horror to his portfolio. Furthermore, he has secured an eight-figure deal with Universal, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster to write, produce, and direct another original film, though the specifics of this massive endeavor remain under wraps.

For now, Mama Bear serves as a perfect, timely opportunity for horror enthusiasts to experience Barker’s latest creativity while eagerly awaiting his next feature release. It’s a compelling taste of the talent poised to dominate the genre.
