Mimic Survival Horror Early Access Steam Trailer

Mimic: Where Trust Is the Fatal Flaw in Space

Prepare to question every face in the room. A new social deduction and survival horror experience, Mimic, is currently shaking up the PC gaming scene in Early Access. Developed by solo creator Ryan Laley, the game masterfully blends the tense, paranoid atmosphere of Alien: Isolation with the high-stakes interpersonal drama of classic social deduction titles like Among Us.

The premise is simple yet terrifying: players are trapped aboard a crumbling Icarus spacecraft, forced to hunt for a deadly alien creature that can perfectly impersonate a human survivor. The core tension comes from the fact that one of them is the Mimic—a creature that can slip into the shadows, hiding beneath the flesh of a friend while players race to solve objectives and carve out an escape route.

This is not just a game of survival; it’s a game of impossible trust. Players must navigate deadly obstacles and face dynamic threats while simultaneously trying to discern who among them is the ultimate deception. The result is a truly dynamic experience where paranoia is the deadliest weapon.

Laley has emphasized that being in Early Access means embracing the chaos. He acknowledges that the game is still evolving, ensuring that the focus remains on continuous improvement rather than arbitrary deadlines. Instead of setting rigid schedules, the developer promises transparency, committing to refining the experience based on community feedback and any unexpected technical challenges that arise.

“Mimic isn’t finished, and there will undoubtedly be bugs, rough edges, and things that need improving,” Laley states. “As a solo developer, priorities can shift, especially when facing technical hurdles or community input. What I can promise is a commitment to continually improving Mimic, being open about development, and doing everything I can to make it the best experience possible.”

Looking ahead, the roadmap for Mimic is packed with fresh content designed to deepen the lore and enhance the gameplay. Developers plan to introduce three entirely new maps, each offering a unique atmosphere, set of challenges, and secrets to uncover. Furthermore, the game will introduce a new single-player mode, allowing players to experience the horror of the setting without the pressure of a full crew.

Beyond the core survival mechanics, the game will shake up the established rules by expanding the affix system with new modifiers, hidden discoveries, and additional lore, promising deeper layers of mystery for players to explore.

Mimic currently supports online matchmaking for five players and can accommodate up to ten players in customizable private lobbies. While it is currently available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, the developer plans to expand the reach of the game, bringing it to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series next year once it exits Early Access.
