MIXTAPE arrives before SCP reveal

The long-running horror anthology franchise V/H/S is taking a fascinating detour before leaping into the realm of the SCP Foundation universe. Instead of the next traditional installment, fans are about to receive an electrifying musical mixtape designed to redefine terror: V/H/S/MIXTAPE.

V/H/S/MIXTAPE will hit streaming service Shudder on October 9, promising a collection where music and sound aren’t just background noise—they become the primary source of dread. This new anthology explores the power of rhythm and audio to haunt, possess, and destroy, blending cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter, and groundbreaking practical effects into an unforgettable nightmare.

The creative lineup for this musical descent is as eclectic as the content itself. The mixtape brings together segments directed by established talents, including Ernest Dickerson (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists), David Moreau (Mads), and Renee Zhan (O Black Hole!). Adding to the spectacle, Zhan’s segment will feature original creature creations from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The sonic theme extends beyond the narrative itself. The anthology features music video interludes directed by Flying Lotus, while heavy metal icon GWAR makes an appearance. Even bigger surprises await, as frontman of Ghost, Tobias Forge, makes his directorial debut with a music video segment.

The production team remains familiar to longtime fans, with Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber, and Brad Miska serving as producers. This revival follows a successful run, where the franchise first launched in 2012 before finding a major resurgence upon moving to Shudder.

V/H/S has proven its staying power, delivering annual anthologies like V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/Halloween. The success of the franchise was further cemented when V/H/S/Halloween became the most-watched exclusive film premiere on Shudder and AMC+ in 2025, driving massive subscriber acquisition.

While the musical adventure of V/H/S/MIXTAPE delivers immediate thrills, the franchise is gearing up for a much grander expansion. The next major step involves plunging into the unknown of the SCP Foundation universe with V/H/S: SCP. This ambitious project will mark the first feature-length adaptation of the SCP Foundation, framed as recovered field documentation revealing containment breaches by a mysterious organization.

This sprawling narrative is slated for a theatrical release in 2027, promising that the horror legacy of V/H/S will continue its journey into some of the most bizarre and terrifying corners of fictional reality.
