A major creative shakeup has hit the production of the upcoming feature film Molepeople, signaling a significant pivot in the direction and cast of the project.

Director Ben Wheatley is stepping into the directorial role for the project, partnering with Paramount Primal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. This change follows the departure of Rob Savage, who had been slated to helm the film but ultimately stepped away due to scheduling conflicts.

The creative shifts extend beyond the directorial chair, as the film also sees a change in casting. Star LaKeith Stanfield has also exited the project, adding another layer of change to the production team.

The story itself promises a descent into the uncanny, following a man who ventures into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City to uncover a sinister, twisted society lurking beneath the familiar streets.

The foundation of this ambitious venture is being managed by a powerful group of producers, including Jason Blum, J.D. Lifshitz, Raphael Margules, and James Harris.

With the creative elements now in place, the production is gearing up for filming, which is slated to begin at the end of November or early December in the United Kingdom.

Paramount will oversee the worldwide distribution of the film, with a target release date set for August 27th, 2027, underscoring the fast pace of production on the title.
