Olivia Wilde has taken to the spotlight to reflect on her complex relationship with Elon Musk, sharing candid thoughts about a figure who has evolved dramatically since their initial encounters. During a recent appearance on “The Louis Theroux Podcast”, Wilde didn’t shy away from expressing a deep resentment toward Musk, contrasting the man she knew with the controversial public figure he has become.

She recalled meeting Musk years ago when SpaceX was establishing its headquarters in Los Angeles. During that time, she toured the facilities and observed a version of Musk who seemed grounded and thoughtful. She noted that at that point, Musk demonstrated a willingness to contribute, including donating funds to an organization in Haiti focused on building hospitals and schools—a gesture Wilde deeply appreciated.

However, as the years passed, Wilde’s perception of Musk shifted dramatically. She admitted she could not have predicted the trajectory he would follow, noting how his ideology evolved into something she now finds deeply troubling. The change stemmed largely from exposure to his promotion of misogynistic and incel beliefs.

Wilde pointed out that Musk’s views often revolved around the idea that men possess an inherent power over women and their choices, a perspective she found jarring, especially when juxtaposed with other of his public statements. This critique extended to his commentary on global demographic issues.

Just a few years prior, Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the declining birth rate, framing it as a severe crisis. He wrote that he was “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.” This perspective further fueled Wilde’s growing sense of disillusionment regarding his intellectual trajectory.

The contrast between the charitable acts she witnessed early on and the controversial ideology she observes now highlights the profound shift in her opinion of Musk. It was a journey from admiring a seemingly smart, philanthropic innovator to grappling with the ideological implications of his public persona.
