Oscar Isaac’s verdict on Charles Melton’s X-Men role rumors
When Hollywood is buzzing about the next big superhero reboot, the most intriguing rumors often come from unexpected places. This is the case with the X-Men, where the speculation is taking a curious turn, fueled by a casual comment from a major star that may just open the door to a new mutant superhero.
Oscar Isaac, the Oscar-nominated actor known for his intense roles, recently added fresh fuel to the fire surrounding Charles Melton‘s potential casting in the Marvel universe. Though Isaac offered no official confirmation, his description of his co-star from the Netflix series Beef as a natural mutant superhero has instantly shifted the conversation toward the possibility of Melton playing the Beast.
This speculation is amplified by the fact that Isaac and Melton have spent significant time working together on the second season of Netflix’s acclaimed Beef. This shared creative experience gives fans a unique lens through which to view their dynamic, making the possibility of them collaborating on a major cinematic project feel all the more plausible.
Melton has, of course, not yet made any official announcements regarding a Marvel role. However, he has spoken highly of the creative team behind the rumored X-Men project, expressing a deep desire to work with writer Lee Sung Jin and director Jake Schreier. He called the opportunity to collaborate with Sung Jin “incredible” and hinted at a repeated desire to work with him.
The timing of these comments is especially interesting given the imminent development of the new X-Men film. Marvel Studios is preparing a major cinematic event set for May 5, 2028, with Jake Schreier directing and Lee Sung Jin writing the story. The studio has already unveiled a core cast, including Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver slated to play Mister Sinister.
Despite the flurry of activity, Marvel has intentionally kept several major mutant figures unannounced, including the pivotal roles of Beast, Magneto, and Mystique. This leaves Isaac’s suggestive comments as an intriguing thread in the unfolding narrative. While the casting remains officially unconfirmed, the buzz surrounding the potential pairing of Melton and Isaac—and the direction of the X-Men saga—is more alive than ever.
