Pancakes, Tesseract, Watcher, Astaire News
The cinematic landscape is buzzing with fresh developments, offering everything from high-stakes action thrillers and quirky comedy to ambitious sci-fi epics and glittering biopics. From newly acquired indie gems to major franchise continuations, the film world is delivering a feast of entertainment.
A delightful new venture is hitting the screens soon with Best Pancakes In The County, an action-thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Justin Long, Shelley Hennig, Lauren German, and Ravi Patel. IFC has secured the U.S. rights for this project, setting the stage for an explosive night where an unassuming small-town diner transforms into the epicenter of a deadly standoff involving rogue federal agents, a fast-talking con man, and some seriously guarded secrets.
Meanwhile, the science fiction genre continues to evolve. Actor Glen Powell has reportedly been involved in the editing of the Sam Esmail-directed film Tesseract at Amazon MGM and United Artists. Although initial filming plans in London and Hungary were put on hold following Powell raising questions about the script, Powell is already keeping busy, having shot the second season of Hulu’s Chad Powers and is gearing up for J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond next year.
In the realm of drama, anticipation is building for a return to the universe of The Watcher. Filming for the second season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s series is set to kick off this Fall in New York. A familiar and talented ensemble is back for the next chapter, including Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Margo Martindale, and Isabel Gravitt, all returning from the first season.
Adding another layer of glamour to the production side, the highly anticipated biopic about Fred Astaire is assembling an equally stellar cast. Talia Ryder, known for her roles in Honey Don’t and West Side Story, is joining Tom Holland. Ryder will portray June Allyson, a dancer and MGM actress who was originally slated to star opposite Astaire in the musical film Royal Wedding. She joins a roster that includes Margaret Qualley as Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and Broadway partner, and Sabrina Carpenter as Ginger Rogers.
The project is helmed by Paul King, who is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Steven Levenson. These diverse projects underscore the vitality of current filmmaking, proving that whether you’re diving into a gritty thriller, exploring deep space, or celebrating the golden age of musical cinema, there is something exciting happening on the big screen.
