Paramount+’s crime thriller resurrection is killing it on streaming
Once added to Netflix a few years ago, the world of Dexter experienced a much-needed revival—no pun intended. For a long time, the character had enjoyed considerable popularity, but after the end of New Blood, fans were left yearning for more content from the highly successful franchise.
This thirst for material caught the attention of streaming giants. The resurgence of Dexter on Netflix and subsequent success on Paramount Plus put pressure on the studio to explore new avenues for the brand. Paramount took the plunge, beginning development on new series to capitalize on the enduring appeal of the dark detective world.
The first experiment in this direction was Dexter: Original Sin. This prequel sought to delve into Dexter’s origins, starring Patrick Gibson, who had previously appeared in 007 First Light. Despite securing a renewal for Season 2, this venture did not meet the studio’s expectations and was ultimately canceled.
This decision left only one main series standing in the franchise. However, rather than stalling, the original story continued to pick up momentum. Now, Dexter is officially gearing up for its second season, proving that the core concept remains powerful enough to captivate audiences and continue evolving in a new era.
