Pattinson promises radical Batman sequel
The cinematic universe of Gotham is buzzing, and the latest rumble is coming from the world of Batman. Following rave reviews for his work on Primetime at the Venice Film Festival, actor Robert Pattinson has opened up about his current project, The Batman Part II, which he will be filming for much of the remainder of the year.
While the official narrative remains tantalizingly guarded, social media has been flooded with glimpses of the production, revealing scenes filled with high-octane vehicular action involving the Batmobile and police pursuits, as well as intriguing moments involving a child. These visual teasers have ignited a firestorm of speculation among fans regarding the film’s deep plot, its potential villains, and its shocking direction.
Speculation runs wild, with theories ranging from classic rogues like Two-Face and Victor Zsasz to the ominous mystery of The Court of Owls, all vying for attention.
Pattinson himself suggested that this sequel is poised to be a radical departure from previous iterations of the Batman mythos. He believes the film marks a significant shift in storytelling, a concept he feels is best handled by director Matt Reeves.
“It’s just amazing,” Pattinson shared, emphasizing the fresh approach to the story. “It’s quite a radical change to the script, and it’s cool that WB and DC are behind it. I think Matt Reeves is the only person anyone would allow to do it because it’s, like, a really radical retelling of Batman. I think that people will be excited by it.”
This sentiment aligns perfectly with director Matt Reeves’ earlier comments, who noted that the project “pushes even further into the character of Bruce Wayne” and introduces an approach to villainy that has “never really been done in a movie before.” Pattinson further confirmed that the film will possess a completely distinct visual identity, confirming that it has “another totally different direction” than the first film.
The visual overhaul is clearly taking shape. Filming recently wrapped a three-week leg of shooting within the bustling Glasgow city centre, with plans set to continue across various locations throughout the rest of the year.
The production features an impressive ensemble cast, bringing a wealth of talent to the Gotham narrative. Key among the stars are Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.
The film is slated for release in February 2028.
