Pendulum trailer: Gordon-Levitt and Dynevor’s terrifying spiritual journey
There is no such thing as death in the eerie new trailer for Pendulum, the feature directorial debut of Black Swan screenwriter Mark Heyman.
Set to arrive in theaters on January 1, 2027, this forthcoming horror film promises a surreal and deeply unsettling journey, blending the theme of spiritual healing with sheer, unadulterated terror.
At the heart of the story are the married couple Patrick Gordon-Levitt and Abigail Dynevor, who seek refuge at a new-age retreat in New Mexico. Drawn by the hope of healing after a traumatic experience, they enter a space meant to deliver a fresh start. However, as Patrick tries to help his wife, his trust begins to fray, fueled by the mysterious, enigmatic leader of the retreat, Jacki Weaver.
The retreat is designed to offer peace, but for Patrick and Abigail, it rapidly devolves into a psychological nightmare. As Abigail falls under the spell of the spiritual practices, Patrick’s paranoia escalates. They are forced to confront a terrifying question: are the group’s spiritual practices offering genuine healing, or are they merely masking a truth that threatens to consume them both?
This psychological pressure cooker is masterfully directed by Mark Heyman, a filmmaker who channels his personal family lore and the surreal landscape of New Mexico into the film. He shot Pendulum in the very region where he grew up, which imbues every scene with an elevated, almost hallucinatory quality.
The film is anchored by an incredible cast of talent. Alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor, the film features seasoned actors including Jena Malone, Norman Reedus, and Jacki Weaver, promising a spectacular collection of performances.
With director Darren Aronofsky producing through his label Protozoa Pictures, the film is poised to make a significant impact. The collaboration brings together high-caliber talent, promising audiences not just a horror movie, but a freaky head trip that will truly ring in 2027.
