Penguin Helmer Directs Killing The Children
A new cinematic horror adaptation is brewing, blending the intense, character-driven style of recent acclaimed directors with a classic monster hunting narrative. Filmmaker Craig Zobel is set to direct the live-action feature adaptation of the comic series Something Is Killing the Children.
The story itself is a gritty journey following Erica Slaughter, a determined monster hunter who ventures into the isolated town of Archer’s Peak when children begin vanishing, forcing her to confront the terrifying creature preying on them.
This adaptation draws its power from a comic that has proven immensely popular, managing to become the most successful original horror comic since Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, with over 5 million copies sold worldwide.
The project is backed by a powerhouse production team. Jason Blum, Stephen Christy, and James Tynion IV will be involved in producing the film, leveraging their experience to bring the world of the comic to the screen. Tynion IV is a key creative force, having co-created the BOOM! Studios graphic novel series with Werther Dell’Edera.
Adding another layer of development, Blumhouse is simultaneously nurturing an adult animated series version of the story, which Tynion IV will be guiding. This multi-platform approach suggests a deep commitment to expanding the narrative universe.
While the film adaptation promises a thrilling cinematic experience, there is currently no confirmed release date. It is notable that the project is not currently scheduled on Blumhouse’s anticipated 2027 line-up, which includes titles such as River, The Revenge of La Llorona, and Paranormal Activity.
Despite the lack of a firm date, the convergence of a highly successful IP, a celebrated director, and established horror production expertise signals that the adaptation of Something Is Killing the Children is poised to be a significant event in the horror landscape.
