Peter Jackson’s next Tintin adventure

The world of adventure is buzzing with news for fans of graphic storytelling, as filmmaker Peter Jackson has confirmed his next directorial venture will be diving back into the world of Tintin. This exciting project marks his return to the helm of a feature film after a long hiatus, signaling a new chapter for the celebrated franchise.

Jackson and his creative partner Fran Walsh have recently concluded the writing of the script, bringing a beloved story back to the screen. This move positions it as Jackson’s first studio film in over a decade, following his work on The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in 2014.

Their motivation for tackling this classic tale stems from the timeless nature of the narrative. As Jackson shared, the inspiration behind the project lies in its enduring appeal, echoing the magic that first captivated audiences decades ago.

“Fran and I have been writing a script for the next Tintin film because 15 years ago, Steven Spielberg directed a Tintin film and I produced it,” Jackson explained. “The idea was that then I was supposed to go straight onto a second one, and we’d swap the roles, so I’d direct the second one and he’d produce it. It’s just taken 15 years to get there, unfortunately, a bit late. But it’s a timeless story. So we just wrapped up. So probably the next film I’ll direct is a Tintin movie.”

The source material for the franchise began with the 2011 film, which successfully grossed $374 million from a modest $135 million budget. That original adventure drew its inspiration from an amalgamation of three classic Tintin books: The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure.

While there is no official confirmation on which specific story will form the basis of the sequel, it is widely assumed the next cinematic journey will explore material related to The Seven Crystal Balls or Prisoners of the Sun.

This creative team represents a shift in direction. Unlike the first film, which was developed by Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish, and Edgar Wright, Jackson and Walsh took the reins of the script, injecting their vision into the next installment. The anticipation is palpable as fans await the official details of this highly anticipated adventure.
