Ramayana launch date set early ahead of India release
A Cosmic Saga Unveiled: Ramayana Locks in Global Release Date
The world of cinema is gearing up for an epic arrival, as Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially locked in a global release date for the sprawling adaptation of Ramayana. This isn’t just a film release; it’s the launch of a mythological spectacle designed to captivate audiences across cultures, and the timing itself carries profound significance for devotees of the ancient saga.
Set for a global debut in November, the multi-part epic promises to be a cinematic journey featuring some of India’s most celebrated talent. Ranbir Kapoor will embody the exiled prince Rama, Sai Pallavi will bring depth to the role of Sita, and Yash is slated to portray the formidable demon king Ravana. Nitesh Tiwari is steering this colossal vision, ensuring the narrative flows across multiple languages, including English, allowing the story to reach unprecedented global audiences.
The narrative dives into the heart of the epic—the harrowing journey of Rama and Sita through exile and catastrophe following the abduction of Sita by Ravana. This separation ignites an epic conflict between righteousness and evil, setting the stage for a battle that spans three worlds. Earlier trailers have already showcased breathtaking visual effects, intricately designed mythological weaponry, and massive, visceral battle sequences.
Behind the spectacle is a powerhouse team dedicated to bringing this 5,000-year-old saga to life with unparalleled quality. The musical score will be a masterful fusion, brought to life by the legendary talents of Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Action choreography is handled by Terry Notary and Guy Norris, while production design is led by Ramsey Avery and Ravi Bansal. The visual effects are managed by DNEG, the eight-time Oscar-winning house behind cinematic masterpieces like Dune and Interstellar, promising visuals of staggering scale.
The production is backed by major entities, with the film being produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. While Sony holds the global distribution rights, the film will also see a release handled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in India. Both parts were meticulously filmed in the immersive IMAX format.
The selection of the release window is steeped in tradition. The November launch coincides with Diwali, a festival that marks Rama’s triumphant return to his kingdom of Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile and his victory over Ravana. The celebration of Diwali, with its illuminating lamps, perfectly mirrors the moment Ayodhya was illuminated when the prince came home. The anticipation only grows, as the second part of the epic is slated for release on Diwali 2027.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who previously achieved massive success with Dangal, the project is envisioned as an unprecedented cinematic spectacle. This adaptation is set to redefine the boundaries of storytelling, offering a cinematic experience that honors the ancient saga while delivering a modern, unforgettable experience for global audiences.
