Renny Harlin directs the prison rescue thriller Evac
When you think high-octane action, you think Renny Harlin. The director, known for delivering pulse-pounding thrillers like Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger, is back at the helm of a new, adrenaline-fueled concept: Evac. This upcoming prison rescue story promises to be an intense ride, forcing its mismatched protagonists to fight for their lives after a catastrophic helicopter crash-lands them in the thick of a volatile prison yard.
The film centers on a gripping scenario: a medical specialist must band together with a wounded inmate she was sent to rescue. Their survival hinges on navigating a dangerous, unfolding prison conspiracy while battling the elements and the odds of escape.
The narrative promise is clear. As the official synopsis reveals, the core conflict is simple yet explosive: “a medical specialist must team up with a wounded inmate she was sent to rescue after their medical helicopter crash-lands in a volatile prison yard. Together, the mismatched duo must survive the night and fight their way out amidst a dangerous, unfolding prison conspiracy.”
What truly elevates the story is the tension. The script, penned by the talented Sidney King, is built to deliver a non-stop adrenaline rush. It skillfully blends an intense, ticking-clock rescue mission with deeply character-driven stakes, trapping the audience right there in the prison yard alongside the heroes.
Harlin himself has praised the project, highlighting the film’s potential for grand, visceral action. He notes that the project combines complex prison politics with raw survival prowess, creating a pressure-cooker world that is set to be an unforgettable theatrical experience for action fans worldwide.
Harlin has a history of crafting high-stakes environments, having previously directed films such as The Long Kiss Goodnight, Deep Water, and the horror trilogy The Strangers. This new project continues his signature style of throwing everyday professionals into extraordinary, survival-stakes scenarios.
Behind the camera, the project is backed by a solid production team, including Michael Roccio and Robert Dean for uStudios, alongside producing partners Dawn Bursteen and Alan B. Bursteen of Milestone Studios. This synergy suggests a high-quality, cinematic experience is in the works.
Casting discussions are currently underway for Evac, and filming is targeted for 2027. While no cast members or release date have been announced yet, the anticipation for this action thriller is already building. With Renny Harlin directing a story that promises explosive action and deep drama, Evac is set to make some serious waves.
