Resident Evil Requiem sets completion record
In a landscape often dominated by sprawling, notoriously challenging AAA titles, a relatively brief experience managed to set a new benchmark for player completion: the “Resident Evil: Requiem.” This installment has achieved the highest completion rate in the franchise’s history, proving that focused storytelling and accessible design can triumph over sheer duration.
The secret to this remarkable feat lies in the game’s manageable scope. With a campaign length of just 10 to 14 hours, the game appeals to players who crave intense action without the grind of marathon sessions. This efficiency naturally drew in a massive audience, reflected in the impressive completion figures across platforms.
On PC, players achieved a stunning 72.9% completion rate for the main story, easily the best ever recorded. The PlayStation version followed closely, with 69.3% of players finishing the game. This high engagement stems from the game’s accessible nature and the introduction of a highly coveted achievement: the Rookie Agent, which is awarded simply for completing the main narrative on casual difficulty or higher.
The success of Requiem places it in a league above many other massive titles. For context, the next closest contenders, such as Resident Evil 4 Remake (60.4% on Steam) and Resident Evil Village (58% on Steam), still trail behind this record. Even other heavily anticipated games like Cyberpunk 2077 (35.4%) and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (33.9%) see significantly lower completion rates.
The data also suggests a fascinating preference for narrative choice among players. When it came to Leon’s action-oriented sequences, a strong majority—90%—chose the default third-person perspective for their first playthrough, highlighting a preference for immersion over the first-person view. Interestingly, when facing the more intimate Grace scenes, 60% of players opted for the first-person perspective, with 40% choosing the third-person view. This split varied regionally, with Asian markets showing a greater inclination toward third-person gameplay.
The fact that a relatively short game can generate such high completion numbers serves as a powerful reminder that quality engagement is measured not just in playtime, but in the experience delivered. Resident Evil: Requiem has successfully demonstrated that high-quality horror and action can be condensed into a perfectly paced adventure that players are eager to finish.
