Avengers: Endgame Review: A Hugely Satisfying Finale

8.5/10 — Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Pros
- Emotional character conclusions
- Crowd-pleasing finale
- Loving nods to earlier films
Cons
- Loose time-travel logic
- Slow first act
After Thanos wiped out half of all life, the remaining Avengers plot a desperate plan to undo it. The film closes a story that began with Iron Man in 2008.
What works
The character moments are the strength: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson all get proper farewells, and the middle section’s trip through past films is fun. The big battle finale is an audience-pleasing spectacle, and the emotional payoffs hit.
Where it falters
The time-travel logic doesn’t bear scrutiny, and it’s a long runtime with a meandering first act.
Verdict
A rousing, emotional send-off for a decade of storytelling.
