Dune: Part Two Review: Epic Science Fiction on a Grand Scale

Dune: Part Two (2024)

9/10 — Dune: Part Two (2024)

Pros

  • Stunning visuals and sound
  • Powerful central performances
  • Ambitious storytelling

Cons

  • Solemn pace
  • Complex for newcomers

Paul Atreides joins the Fremen on Arrakis to take revenge on the Harkonnens, while the prophecy that surrounds him grows into something dangerous. Denis Villeneuve completes the first book’s story.

What works

The scale is breathtaking, from the sandworm riding to the black-and-white gladiatorial arena on Giedi Prime, and Hans Zimmer’s pounding score fills the theatre. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya anchor the story, while Austin Butler is chillingly unpredictable as Feyd-Rautha.

Where it falters

The pace is solemn, and the emotional beats can be cold. Viewers new to the story may find the politics hard to follow.

Verdict

A visually stunning, serious sci-fi epic. Best seen on the biggest screen.
