House Review: A Medical Detective with a Cane
8.5/10 — House (2004)
Pros
- Hugh Laurie's performance
- House and Wilson's friendship
- Clever medical mysteries
Cons
- Formulaic
- Later seasons fade
Dr Gregory House is a misanthropic, pain-ridden genius who leads a team at Princeton-Plainsboro hospital, solving unusual medical cases. The show ran for eight seasons on Fox.
What works
Hugh Laurie is terrific, and the show’s mix of medical mystery and character drama is gripping. The supporting cast, particularly Robert Sean Leonard as Wilson, gives the show warmth.
Where it falters
The formula of misdiagnosis and last-minute revelation repeats endlessly, and later seasons lose steam.
Verdict
A sharp, entertaining procedural anchored by Laurie.
