Life Review: Attenborough on Survival

9/10 — Life (2009)
Pros
- Remarkable high-speed footage
- Attenborough's narration
- Memorable sequences
Cons
- Some familiar ground
David Attenborough narrates ten episodes exploring how plants and animals have adapted to find food, mates and safety. It uses high-speed and time-lapse photography to show behaviours humans rarely see.
What works
The footage is outstanding, including the Komodo dragons’ hunt and a basilisk lizard running across water. Attenborough’s narration is engaging, and the series finds fresh angles on well-trodden themes.
Where it falters
It covers some familiar ground, and the structure is looser than in Planet Earth.
Verdict
A beautiful, entertaining nature series with plenty of surprises.
