The film draws its inspiration from the notorious early 2000s reality television series To Catch a Predator, which was featured on the television news magazine program Dateline NBC. This real-life television phenomenon serves as the foundation for the narrative of Primetime.
The story centers on the legendary figure of Chris Hansen, who spearheaded sting operations aimed at catching pedophiles. The film reimagines Hansen’s role, plunging the audience into the gritty reality of his methods—confronting adult men with hidden cameras at sting houses where they were expected to engage in sex with minors, only to be arrested instead.
