Sarah Paulson’s AHS attitude Ryan Murphy disagrees
In the high-stakes world of television and celebrity feuds, sometimes the greatest drama happens behind the scenes. On the set of American Horror Story, the friction between creator Ryan Murphy and actress Sarah Paulson has sparked a long-running debate over one particular season.
While many viewers adore the anthology, Paulson recently made it clear that one installment didn’t land for her. She publicly named Roanoke, the 2016 season, as her least favorite.
Paulson, who played key roles in the season as Shelby Miller and Audrey Tindall, didn’t mince words about her feelings, stating, “I don’t like it! It’s not for me! I like a lot of things about it, but that one wasn’t for me. I don’t give a s— about that season. Sorry!”
The season itself offered a unique narrative twist. Released in 2016, <Roanoke> began as a documentary titled My Roanoke Nightmare, eventually morphing into a reality series that brought the subjects of the story back to their North Carolina farmhouse, adding an unusual structure that set it apart from the show’s earlier installments.
The Creator Steps In to Defend
When the disagreement flared up, creator Ryan Murphy quickly stepped in to defend his vision. Murphy responded to the comments by asserting his strong affection for the season, labeling it his favorite while praising Paulson’s performance. He noted that the dynamic between the two extends back several years, admitting they have had some spirited “arguments” about the show.
The tension isn’t new. Paulson herself had previously expressed feeling “underwhelmed” by the overall experience of <Roanoke> during a 2021 appearance, wishing she could have asked the program creator to sit out the season.
AHS has clearly been a journey for Paulson, too. After Season 9, she took a well-deserved break, only to return for Season 10. She then took another hiatus, sitting out Seasons 11 and 12. Now, she is gearing up for her return with Season 13, where Murphy is teasing that she will be playing multiple roles, promising a grand return to the terrifying world of the show.
