Sony’s Horror Franchise Finds New Rhythm with Sixth Entry

The haunted house genre continues to deliver thrills, as Sony’s horror franchise unveiled its latest installment, Insidious: Out of the Further, which generated a solid three million in previews at the U.S. box-office.

This new entry arrives following the success of the franchise’s previous entry, Insidious: The Red Door, which debuted for a healthy thirty-three million dollars. Crucially, critics have lauded the follow-up, cementing it as the most well-received film in the franchise since its initial release.

Financial estimates suggest that Out of the Further is set to launch strongly, with projections placing its debut in the $23-27 million range. This positions it firmly in second place behind the massive performance of Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is anticipated to take in an additional $35-40 million over its fourth weekend.

The production itself is demonstrating strong financial footing. With a reported production cost of just $18 million, the film is poised for profit, especially as global opening weekend estimates hint at potential earnings that could double the domestic take.

While the horror saga is finding its footing, other releases are also making waves. The blockbuster The Odyssey is expected to continue its momentum, slated to bring in another $15 million in domestic earnings for its sixth weekend.

Elsewhere in the cinematic landscape, the independent comedy Spa Weekend is also performing well, tracking toward an opening weekend of $3-5 million.

The studio’s slate also features other notable titles. The Jason Statham-led Mutiny, a film that recently sparked conversation regarding its leaked content, pulled in $500,000 in previews, with domestic box office expectations sitting around $6 million for the weekend.
