Snoop Dogg Biopic Finds Suge Knight in Nemesis Star and 4 new roles

Universal Pictures is gearing up to bring a legendary era of West Coast hip-hop to the big screen with an upcoming biopic about Snoop Dogg. And they’ve already found the perfect villain: Tre Hale has been tapped to play the formidable Suge Knight, the intimidating co-founder of the powerhouse label, Death Row Records.

This project isn’t just a look back at music history; it dives into the complex, often tragic, world behind the rise of global icons. Suge Knight is the figure who built the empire that launched Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Tupac Shakur into mainstream stardom. But the story is far more dramatic than a simple success tale. The narrative will explore the tumultuous history of Death Row, which ultimately collapsed after Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre walked away.

The story is deeply rooted in real-life drama, touching on the legal and personal turmoil that surrounded the label’s history, including the fact that Knight later faced a 28-year prison sentence for a manslaughter conviction related to a fatal hit-and-run in 2015.

Tre Hale brings rich credentials to the role, having previously starred in projects like Platonic on AppleTV+ and Empire City. His experience lends a necessary depth to the character of Knight.

The cast is brimming with talent, ensuring the story is told from multiple perspectives. Jonathan Daviss will portray Snoop Dogg, chronicling his journey from local talent to global icon. Supporting the main cast are several actors stepping into key roles from Snoop’s life. Myles Bullock steps into the shoes of the legendary producer Dr. Dre, while Camron Jones will embody the volatile rap legend Tupac Shakur. Algee Smith portrays Snoop’s stepbrother, Warren G, and Lauren London rounds out the group as Snoop’s mother.

The creative vision for the film is helmed by director Craig Brewer, who will guide the narrative. The production is overseen by producers Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum, who have previously shaped critically acclaimed projects like 8 Mile.

This epic journey through hip-hop history is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2027. It’s a powerful cinematic event that promises to explore the glamour, the ambition, and the heartache woven into the fabric of the West Coast sound.
