Sony sets 2027 release for 24 Jump Street and Treasure Island

Movie release schedules are often treated like delicate, tightly wound clock springs, and lately, Sony Pictures has been announcing some noticeable shuffles. Amidst the cinematic chaos, several highly anticipated films are adjusting their timelines, promising a fresh batch of blockbuster excitement for 2027 and 2028.

From high-octane action to classic adventure, the lineup is packed with major releases. Ridley Scott is back in the director’s chair, set to helm the latest adaptation of the timeless novel, Treasure Island, scheduled for a November 11, 2027 debut. Fans can look forward to seeing star Hugh Jackman in the role of Blackbeard, joined by Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper on the adventure.

Meanwhile, other major titles are finding their places on the calendar. The action-packed thriller The Surgeon, starring Michelle Yeoh, is slated for release on April 2, 2027. Comedy fans will also get their fix with Narcs, starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright, hitting theaters on August 20, 2027.

And for the younger audiences, the upcoming film 24 Jump Street is locked in for a December 10, 2027 release. This installment promises a familiar dose of comedy, featuring the return of Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube, with Rodney Rothman stepping in to direct the project.

The shuffling, however, isn’t limited to the new releases. Some projects have experienced necessary delays to ensure the best possible production. The intense video game movie Helldivers has been pushed back, moving its release from November 10, 2027, to June 9, 2028, allowing for more expansive world-building.

Adding to the timeline adjustments, another project, Grandyear, the first English-language film from Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki, has shifted from February 18, 2028, to January 14, 2028.

The story behind the delays often involves cinematic talent and high stakes. For instance, Helldivers already saw some behind-the-scenes drama when planned star Jason Momoa was forced to exit due to scheduling conflicts. Fortunately, Alan Ritchson quickly stepped up to lead the charge, bringing his presence to the elite unit of soldiers battling alien threats across Super Earth.

These adjustments show that even the biggest cinematic events require careful choreography, but when the final picture rolls, the payoff is always worth the wait.
