Sony Pictures Unveils New Timeline: A Whirlwind of Dates and Cast Changes

The cinematic landscape is about to get a fresh shake-up as Sony Pictures has adjusted its release schedule for the latter half of 2027 and all of 2028. This realignment brings a mix of classic adventures, high-octane action, and comedy classics, signaling an exciting slate of projects heading toward theaters.

One of the most anticipated updates involves the beloved comedy franchise, 24 Jump Street. Set for a December 10th, 2027 release, the film continues its legacy with Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube back in the lead. Steering this time around is screenwriter Rodney Rothman, who also co-wrote the script with Hill and Meghan Malloy, with the creative vision supported by original filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller alongside Neal H. Moritz.

Equally compelling is the classic pirate adventure, Treasure Island. Starring the legendary Hugh Jackman, this new cinematic take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale is slated for a November 11th, 2027 release, promising a swashbuckling journey for audiences.

In the action genre, the highly anticipated adaptation of the popular game Helldivers is seeing a shift in its timeline and lead talent. The film adaptation, which had been tentatively set for November 10th, 2027, is now scheduled for June 9th, 2028. Adding another layer of excitement, the lead role has been switched from Jason Momoa to Alan Ritchson, setting the stage for an entirely new dynamic in the future of the franchise.

The studio is also moving several other projects around to create a cohesive and impactful viewing experience. Grandgear has been moved up a month, aiming for a January 14th, 2028 release. Meanwhile, drama and thriller fans can look forward to The Surgeon, which is slated for April 2nd, 2028, and Narcs, scheduled for August 20th, 2028.

These adjustments show Sony Pictures carefully curating its slate, ensuring that some of its biggest franchises and most exciting new projects hit their marks at the perfect time. Get ready for a dynamic lineup as 2027 and 2028 unfold!
