The iconic franchise Star Trek is marking a monumental milestone next month, celebrating six decades of exploration, discovery, and adventure. To commemorate this golden anniversary, Paramount Pictures has unveiled a massive slate of global events, spearheaded by an ambitious attempt to set a world record.

The celebration kicks off on September 8, 2026, the exact date the original Star Trek series premiered on television in 1966. The centerpiece of the festivities is Paramount’s effort to break a Guinness World Record by uniting fans worldwide in a unique gesture.

On that historic date, the attempt will take place at the Science Museum in London. Fans are invited to attend a free, adult-only Star Trek Lates event where they can participate in the “Most People Performing the Vulcan Salute Simultaneously” challenge. Digital viewers will also have the chance to join the global record attempt from home.

For those unfamiliar with the gesture, the Vulcan Salute is more than just a hand movement; it is an iconic symbol. This split-finger gesture is often paired with the famous phrase “Live Long and Prosper,” a salute originally invented by Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy for the alien Vulcan species.

Beyond the record attempt, the anniversary offers a rich tapestry of new and returning content for fans. The critically acclaimed series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is wrapping up its fourth season on September 24. Fans can catch an advance screening of the eighth episode on September 8, with the episode debuting digitally just two days later. The show continues to garner impressive acclaim, holding a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 86% critics’ score for the current season.

In other exciting news, Star Trek: Scouts is set to premiere Season 2 on YouTube on September 8. Simultaneously, the collector’s gift box edition of Star Trek: The Original Series will be released to celebrate the milestone.

Further celebrations include newly restored 4K screenings of classic Star Trek films, which will be released in theaters across the US from September 4 through September 8. Fans can also look forward to an exclusive preview of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy at New York Comic Con on October 10, where panels will feature discussions about the upcoming season.
