Stargate Series in Development
The vast, mysterious universe of the Stargate franchise is gearing up for a brand-new chapter, bringing exciting developments to the forefront of streaming television. A significant creative partnership is underway, led by former television powerhouse Jac Schaeffer, who is spearheading a revival series for Amazon MGM Studios.
Schaeffer, known for crafting critically acclaimed shows like WandaVision and Agatha All Along, is taking the reins on a new project that taps into the enduring appeal of the Stargate lore. This ambitious undertaking is being developed with a dedicated writers’ room, bringing together talent to explore new avenues for the iconic franchise.
The project is being developed under the guidance of Schaeffer, alongside executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. This collaborative effort signals a fresh injection of energy into a property that has captivated audiences for decades.
This comes after earlier plans for a Stargate revival were put on hold by the studio. Concerns arose regarding the potential scope of the project and ensuring it resonated deeply with the established fanbase. This careful approach ensured that the evolution of the franchise honors its rich history while delivering compelling new stories.
The history of the Stargate franchise is deep, rooted in the 1994 film, which first introduced the concept. The subsequent television expansions built upon this foundation, offering hundreds of episodes of exploration and adventure across the galaxy.
The upcoming series marks the first television installment in the franchise since the conclusion of Stargate Universe in 2011. This new narrative will offer audiences a fresh perspective on the intricate world of Stargate.
The initiative is part of Schaeffer’s broader deal with Amazon MGM, positioning this new series as a key narrative within the studio’s expanding catalog. With a talented team guiding the creative process, anticipation is building for what this new era of Stargate television will reveal.
