Stiller & Garofalo reunite but fans are disappointed

When comedy legends collide, the results are often pure gold. That’s the dynamic at play as Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo team up for a new comedy series, bringing their familiar, electric chemistry to the small screen.

The new venture, Protective Custody, is set to stream on Apple TV, offering viewers a fresh take on the concept. At the heart of the series is Stiller, who serves as both star and executive producer, alongside the formidable Benicio Del Toro. Garofalo joins the ensemble with a recurring role, promising more laughs and intrigue with every episode.

The premise of Protective Custody is immediately compelling. It follows a disgraced financier who finds himself in protective custody, forcing him to navigate the often absurd and high-stakes world of prison politics while desperately trying to clear his name before his trial.

This isn’t their first big collaboration. Stiller and Garofalo have built a history of shared screen time in memorable films, including the 1999 comedy Mystery Men, and other beloved features like Reality Bites and The Cable Guy. Their creative synergy extends beyond the screen; the pair even co-wrote a New York Times bestselling book, Feel This Book: An A–Z Guide to Self-Improvement, Spiritual Supremacy, and Sexual Satisfaction.

Beyond their on-screen magic, the creative team behind Protective Custody is stacked with talent. It is written, show-run, and executive-produced by the legendary Mike Judge, Steve Hely, and Dave King, with Judge also serving as director, ensuring the comedic tone is perfectly calibrated.

The supporting cast is equally intriguing, featuring actors such as Amy Sedaris, Samson Kayo, and Sonny Valicenti, adding layers of character complexity to the narrative. While the specific roles remain under wraps, the blend of comedic timing and dramatic tension promises an engaging watch.

Meanwhile, the stars continue to populate the cinematic landscape. Stiller is gearing up for new film projects, including Focker-in-Law with Ariana Grande and Robert De Niro, and A Matter of Time alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean. Garofalo is also making waves with her involvement in the sequel Romy and Michele 2.
