Street Fighter Star joins Jordan & Butler in Miami Vice 85
The neon glow of 1980s Miami is ready for a modern reboot, and the cast is looking sharp. The highly anticipated project Miami Vice ’85 continues its momentum by bringing a dynamic new talent into the fold. This Joseph Kosinski-directed film, anchored by Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as James “Sonny” Crockett, is set to explore the glamour and deep corruption of mid-1980s Miami with a fresh cinematic lens.
Adding another layer of star power to the ensemble is comedian and actor Andrew Schulz. Schulz brings a rapidly expanding filmography to the production, stepping into a role alongside established names like John Leguizamo as the film’s primary antagonist, alongside Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez.
The screenplay, penned by Dan Gilroy, draws inspiration from the iconic aesthetic of the original 1984-90 NBC series, giving the new take on the franchise a nostalgic yet contemporary edge. Universal is overseeing this ambitious project, planning to shoot Miami Vice ’85 in IMAX format, promising a visually stunning experience. Production is slated to begin this year, with a release date set for May 19, 2028.
Schulz’s involvement is a testament to his accelerating career trajectory. Before this role, he has built an impressive portfolio spanning various high-profile projects, including Netflix’s Tires, MGM’s Underdoggs with Snoop Dogg, and The Thicket opposite Peter Dinklage. He has also recently completed filming for the Apple sports movie Running.
The actor’s recent career highlights have also included a sold-out global Life Tour, which featured back-to-back sellouts at major arenas across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, reaching more than 70 venues. This extensive tour, which concluded with a special Netflix recording, demonstrates Schulz’s incredible reach and engaging presence in the entertainment world.
