Dark Sky Films and Fathom Events have revealed plans to bring Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece to the big screen in a stunning new format. This isn’t just a remaster; it’s an artistic reinvention, transforming the raw intensity of 1974 into a unique animated experience created entirely by artists.

The magic behind this transformation lies in rotoscoping—a meticulous technique where artists trace live-action footage frame by frame, ensuring that the performances, atmosphere, and visceral intensity of the original film are preserved while being rendered through an entirely new artistic lens. This process is happening without the use of artificial intelligence, placing the focus squarely on human artistry.

Leading this ambitious project is Animation Director and Art Director Paul Beck, whose previous work includes films like A Scanner Darkly and Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood. Beck’s mission is to honor the film’s legacy by offering audiences a fresh perspective on a cinematic landmark.
