The Great Beyond release date shifts due to Warner Bros schedule change
Warner Bros. is fine-tuning its slate, adjusting release dates for several upcoming films in a strategic move that brings some major studio projects into fresh light. The shuffle involves high-profile sci-fi adventures, intense thrillers, and beloved horror sequels, creating a dynamic new rhythm for the studio’s cinematic calendar.
The biggest shift targets J.J. Abrams’ original sci-fi adventure, The Great Beyond. The film, which stars Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega alongside cast members like Emma Mackey, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Okonedo, and Merritt Wever, will now open on October 1, 2027, moving up from its previous slot of November 13, 2027. This early October release places it alongside other major Warner Bros. hits like Gravity, Joker, Dune, and A Star Is Born, offering a prime viewing window for the audience.
This change is particularly exciting because it gives The Great Beyond an open release frame, avoiding other major wide studio releases scheduled for that date. Furthermore, after holding test screenings, Warner Bros. is planning a premium 70mm IMAX release for the feature.
Adding further excitement to the slate is Sam Esmail’s cyber-thriller Panic Carefully. Starring Julia Roberts, Eddie Redmayne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Brian Tyree Henry, the film has been pushed from its February release date to April 9, 2027. This adjustment allows Esmail’s project to secure an IMAX release, giving it a chance to debut on large-format screens.
The move also brought a change to the horror landscape with New Line’s sequel Revenge of La Llorona. Directed by Santiago Menghini, this film, which follows a fractured family forced to confront the return of the Weeping Woman alongside their estranged curandero grandfather, has shifted from its April release date to February 26, 2027. This timing places the sequel closer to the beginning of the year.
Revenge of La Llorona builds on a beloved premise; the original film, The Curse of La Llorona, earned more than $120 million worldwide upon its 2019 release. The schedule adjustments suggest a studio aiming to capitalize on these established properties by optimizing their placement in the market.
