The Last of Us and Intergalactic get teased
Naughty Dog Unveils Ambitious New Projects Beyond The Last of Us
The world of gaming is buzzing with news from Naughty Dog, the studio responsible for some of the most iconic narrative experiences in gaming. Recently, studio head Neil Druckmann offered an update on the studio’s pipeline, confirming that exciting new projects are in development that will expand the lore of the beloved “The Last of Us” universe, though they are steering clear of a direct sequel.
During a charity stream celebrating the anniversary of the original 2013 game, Druckmann provided a glimpse into the studio’s current focus. While the team is currently deep in the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Druckmann teased that this title represents Naughty Dog’s most ambitious venture yet. He emphasized the excitement building within the studio, noting that all the pieces are finally coming together, even if they require a little more time.
Druckmann confirmed that the full reveal for Intergalactic is slated for 2027, giving fans plenty of time to anticipate Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure. He stressed that the team is working incredibly hard to deliver something worthy of the fans’ continued support, promising to keep the dots between now and then quiet.
Beyond the futuristic realm of Intergalactic, the focus remains firmly on expanding the rich world of The Last of Us. Druckmann spoke about a couple of very exciting new projects in the very early stages, projects designed to expand the canon beyond the original Part I and Part II. He made it clear that these endeavors are focused on telling meaningful stories within that established world.
This expansion has raised inevitable questions about past studio work. There has been talk of a previous live service title, Factions, which Naughty Dog developed for the franchise. Although Sony ultimately pivoted away from that direction, speculation continues about whether assets or levels created for Factions might find a new home in these upcoming projects.
Regardless of which path the team takes, the future of these ambitious titles points toward next-generation hardware. It is widely anticipated that these forthcoming adventures, including Intergalactic, will grace the PlayStation 6.
