The Nutty Professor gets a 4K Blu-ray
The Nutty Professor: A Return to Glory in 4K
From the witty improvisations of Saturday Night Live to the high-octane action of Beverly Hills Cop, Eddie Murphy has always possessed a remarkable gift for inhabiting unforgettable characters. His career is a tapestry woven with comedic genius, and when it comes to the film The Nutty Professor, Murphy’s performance remains a high point of that legacy. The movie itself is a masterclass in physical comedy and character development, centered around the hapless scientist Sherman Klump and his quest for a miracle.
The premise of the film is delightfully absurd: Sherman Klump invents a revolutionary weight-loss solution, only to discover that the side effects come with an unexpected twist. After attempting the cure, Klump finds himself grappling not just with weight loss, but with a second personality—an obnoxiously self-assertive braggart known only as Buddy Love. This internal conflict quickly spirals into a chaotic, hilarious journey that defines the movie.
Now, fans get to experience this classic tale in spectacular new form. The remake of The Nutty Professor is making its way to the high-definition realm with a brand new 4K Blu-ray release, brought to us by the boutique label Kino Lorber. This physical media edition is set to hit retailers on December 22, making it a must-have addition to any holiday collection.
Beyond the stunning visual upgrade, the new release offers incredible deep dives into the film’s creation. The package features a new 4K restoration taken directly from the original camera negative, ensuring that every frame is brought to life with incredible clarity. Viewers will also have access to immersive Dolby Vision/HDR presentation, pushing the visual fidelity to new heights.
For true cinephiles, the second disc offers even more exclusive content. It includes an audio commentary track featuring entertainment journalist and film critic Bryan Reesman, alongside filmmaker and film critic Mike Sargent, providing fascinating insight into the making of the movie. Other features include the original Sherman Klump makeup test and the theatrical trailer.
The technical specifications of the release are top-tier: the film is rendered in 4K Ultra HD, utilizing the HEVC / H.265 codec for superb quality. This release solidifies The Nutty Professor not just as a beloved comedy, but as a technically magnificent cinematic experience.
