Tom Holland on staying Spider-Man “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me”
For nearly a decade, Tom Holland has embodied the web-slinging hero, but as his career progresses, questions inevitably arise about the future of Peter Parker. Yet, when asked directly about his commitment to the role, the answer rings with enthusiasm and a deep sense of connection to the character.
During the recent premiere for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland openly addressed the future of his tenure as Spider-Man. When pressed by reporters, he offered a statement that perfectly captured his dedication: “I will do it for as long as they’ll have me,” he declared, adding that if the film performed well, then they would see how things unfolded.
This sentiment underscores a remarkable longevity. Since his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, Holland has been Spider-Man for an incredible ten years, making him one of the longest continuous runs of any actor playing the character in the franchise.
Holland reflected on the collaborative spirit that defines his experience within the Marvel and Sony universe. He described a powerful bond with the cast and crew: “There’s a family here at Marvel and Sony. We’ve been making these movies for 10 years and we’re all really good friends and we all still really love working with together and there’s a shorthand, there’s a collaboration, there is a shared love for this character that is Peter Parker.”
He further emphasized the almost magical feeling of these collaborations: “When we all get together, it always feels like something magical happens, and to get to do it time and time again is something that will never really sink in for me. It still feels like this is my first-ever premiere for this character. It has been the gift of my life.”
While there have been murmurs about taking a different path—some suggesting a film focusing on Miles Morales or waiting until after age thirty—Holland’s current stance suggests he is firmly committed to continuing his journey as Spider-Man.
The success of Brand New Day further fuels this enthusiasm. The film has already made a significant impact, estimated to debut at $465 million worldwide, positioning it as Sony Pictures’ second-largest opening after the monumental success of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
