Tricia Helfer stars in body horror movie Devour
When Tricia Helfer steps into the spotlight, she often brings a commanding presence, whether she is navigating the complexities of cosmic dread in Battlestar Galactica or the alluring world of Lucifer. Now, she is diving headfirst into the unsettling depths of body horror with her new lead role in the film Devour, a project from writer/director Erica Orofino.
This new venture pairs Helfer with Georgia Bradner and Elizabeth Adams, bringing together a powerhouse cast to explore themes of forbidden attraction, psychological unease, and self-destructive obsession.
The premise of Devour is a dark and transgressive exploration of internal turmoil. Helfer plays Luisa, a former professional figure skater grappling with uncontrollable compulsions. As her fixation intensifies on Karla, a friend of her daughter, the story spirals into a terrifying unravelling of her life, blurring the lines between desire and decay.
The emotional core of the film is driven by this intense, dangerous attraction, forcing the audience to witness a truly unsettling journey into the psychological abyss.
Helfer herself has weighed in on the project, noting the project’s intense atmosphere. She expressed admiration for the filmmakers’ willingness to tackle difficult subject matter, stating, “I loved how dark and psychological the story was. Erica wasn’t afraid to go there, and that’s what made me want to be part of it.”
Behind the lens, the production team for Devour includes producers Matt Code, Alison Almeida, and Lucy McNulty, alongside executive producers Todd Brown, Kiersten Hanly, Emily O’Quinn Code, Mike Chapman, and Fatima Hayward. The studio handling worldwide sales, excluding Canada, is Blue Finch Films.
The creative forces behind the project have a track record, with Wildling Pictures previously bringing the thriller Phreaker to Fantastic Fest, and they have also released other titles such as the romantic comedy Young Werther and the thriller See for Me.
Tricia Helfer’s continued work across film and television, including her role in the drama Hello Beautiful and her ongoing work in Anna Pigeon, demonstrates her versatility. Now, with Devour, she is tackling a genre that blends psychological tension with visceral body horror, promising a truly unique and unforgettable cinematic experience as more details about this intense narrative emerge.
