The world of spooky classics is getting a live-action makeover. Tubi has officially announced plans for a new adaptation of the beloved R.L. Stine novel series, bringing the thrilling world of Goosebumps and Fear Street to the big screen in the form of a new film titled The Babysitter.

The story sets up a high-stakes scenario for a 16-year-old babysitter named Jenny. Driven by the need to earn money for a prestigious writing program, she takes on a dangerous job amidst a backdrop of local terror. But the fun quickly turns sinister when terrifying phone calls and the emergence of a dangerous fugitive force Jenny to confront the shadows lurking in her own town. As her suspicion grows, danger starts closing in on her.

The anticipation for the film was amplified when a concept teaser was unveiled at the New York Comic Con panel. The event brought together R.L. Stine himself, Tubi’s Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson, the renowned writer-director Jem Garrard, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars contestant Jimbo, promising a unique blend of classic horror and modern entertainment.

Lewinson shared the vision for the project, stating that the adaptation aims to deliver a fresh, fun thrill ride for longtime fans and a whole new generation.

Behind the scenes, the creative team is stacked with talent. Jem Garrard is handling the writing and executive producing, while Trevor Calverley will be directing the cinematic experience. The production is bolstered by a talented group including Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron, and Adam Friedlander.

This is part of a broader cinematic universe currently being developed by Tubi and the Stine legacy. Just recently, the streaming service announced another adaptation, Afraid of Clowns, which draws from the classic story of The Nightmare Hour. Interestingly, Jem Garrard is also steering the creative direction for this upcoming film, further cementing his role in bringing Stine’s dark, imaginative stories to life.
