Unabomber First Trailer featuring Tremblay and Crowe
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Unabomber, a gripping new film delving into the dark history of Ted Kaczynski, the infamous U.S. domestic terrorist who orchestrated a nearly two-decade campaign of bombings.
The project is helmed by Danish filmmaker Janus Metz, known for his acclaimed work on titles like Andor and Borg vs. McEnroe. Metz brings a complex, dual-timeline structure to the story, expertly alternating between two pivotal eras: 1958, when Kaczynski was just a sixteen-year-old prodigy, and the mid-1990s, the period when he was finally apprehended by the FBI.
This narrative framework sets up a profound exploration of isolation and psychological manipulation. In the earlier scenes, Jacob Tremblay stars as the young Kaczynski, a brilliant but deeply isolated student at Harvard University, grappling with a struggle to fit into the world around him.
This troubled youth soon becomes the subject of unethical psychological experiments conducted by the celebrated psychologist Henry Murray, portrayed by Russell Crowe. The resulting devastating outcomes form the core of the film’s tension, examining the twisted relationship between genius and manipulation.
The story shifts focus to the 1990s, following the pursuit of justice. Here, FBI agent Joanne Miller, played by Shailene Woodley, takes on the critical task of tracking down the elusive Unabomber.
The ensemble cast brings depth to this psychological thriller, featuring Annabelle Wallis as Christiana Morgan, Murray’s academic partner and co-director of the Harvard Psychological Clinic, alongside Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca. The screenplay for the movie was penned by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves.
Unabomber is slated to arrive on Netflix on September 25th, promising a sophisticated and intense look at the mind behind one of history’s most notorious acts of terror.
