Unexpected Spin-off: Dan Stevens’ New A24 Film

When a beloved action-horror classic gets an unexpected second life, fans naturally wonder where the story goes next. Dan Stevens, the charismatic star of the 2014 thriller The Guest, is now diving headfirst into the moody, high-stakes world of A24 with a new project that promises to deepen his cinematic universe.

The connection between these two films has quickly become a point of fascination. During A24’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, director Adam Wingard confirmed that his upcoming horror-action film Onslaught is directly tied to The Guest, both featuring Stevens. But this isn’t just a simple sequel; the narrative structure is far more intricate than many anticipated.

While initial speculation pointed toward a direct continuation of the plot concerning dangerous government-created super soldiers, Stevens revealed the bond is much deeper. He described Onslaught as a “spiritual sequel” that exists within the same universe established by his previous work, rather than a simple linear continuation.

Wingard further expanded on this interconnected saga, claiming that Onslaught serves as the third and final chapter in a sprawling trilogy that began with You’re Next and The Guest. The new film maintains the same setting as its predecessor, taking place in the same town, but shifting the focus dramatically.

In this new installment, Stevens takes on a completely different role. Instead of reprising his character as David, he portrays a mysterious scientist deeply involved in the deadly super-soldier program that fuels the conflict. The story is led by Adria Arjona, who steps into the spotlight as a former Army sniper protecting her family.

The creative vision behind this connected world aims to explore the fallout of these superhuman conflicts. Wingard expressed his desire to create this narrative expansion after years spent directing blockbuster MonsterVerse movies, stating he wanted to make a film where, spoiler alert, Dan Stevens licks people’s feet.

Onslaught is set to arrive in US theaters on September 4, 2026. The film will also feature an impressive ensemble cast, including Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey, Rebecca Hall, and Maurice Greene.
