Verity adaptation arrives on Prime Video this week
The secrets of ambition, attraction, and devastating truths are heading to your screen. Amazon MGM Studios is bringing Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller, Verity, to Prime Video for digital rental and purchase starting tomorrow, October 27.
This highly anticipated adaptation stars a formidable cast including Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, all anchored by director Michael Showalter, who aims to dissect Hoover’s twisted narrative with sharp psychological insight.
The digital release allows viewers to dive into the mystery at their own pace. You can rent Verity for $19.99 or purchase it digitally for $24.99, and the good news is that a Prime membership is not required to access the film. Amazon notes that renters have 30 days to begin watching and 48 hours to complete playback, giving you plenty of time to unravel the plot.
Unraveling the Mystery
Verity is based on the acclaimed novel and follows the journey of Lowen Ashleigh (played by Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who stumbles into an extraordinary opportunity. Her path leads her to the Crawford family’s remote estate, where she intends to research the celebrated author, Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who has been left incapacitated after a tragic accident. Tasked with finishing the remaining books in Verity’s successful series, Lowen’s assignment quickly takes a sinister turn when she discovers a disturbing manuscript—one that seems to contain the author’s most private confessions.
As Lowen delves deeper into the manuscript, her investigation shifts from literary research to a perilous exploration of the family’s secrets. She begins to question the truth surrounding Verity, the Crawford family, and the dark events chronicled within the pages she is reading. The narrative expertly balances themes of intense ambition with deeply disturbing psychological games, forcing the audience to question what is real and what is merely fiction.
The film, written by Nick Antosca and Colleen Hoover, delivers a potent blend of star power and suspense. While the ensemble cast brings compelling performances, some critics have offered mixed reactions regarding the overall execution of the thriller elements. Some reviewers felt that despite the tantalizing premise, the pacing and handling of the twists needed more energy to truly land the psychological revelations.
For those who missed the theatrical run, the digital release offers an exciting opportunity to experience this dark adaptation. Whether you are prepared for a rollercoaster of secrets or crave the kind of psychological thrill that Verity promises, the choice is yours. The digital release is now live on Prime Video, ready to reveal its secrets.
