Walton Goggins joins Miami Vice ’85

The neon glow and simmering corruption of the 1980s are ready for a cinematic revival. Director Joseph Kosinski is setting his sights on a lavish new venture, bringing the iconic aesthetic of Miami Vice ’85 to the screen. The project is assembling a star-studded cast and is gearing up for production later this year, promising a vibrant look back at an era defined by dazzling fashion and deep-seated moral ambiguity.

Among the reinforcements joining Kosinski’s vision is the powerfully compelling Walton Goggins. Sources indicate that Goggins will be stepping into a role as a henchman for the formidable Cartel king, a part that will be expertly portrayed by John Leguizamo.

The project is already populated with an impressive ensemble. The film will feature Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan as the lead undercover detectives, James “Sonny” Crockett and Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, respectively. They are joined by a host of other talented actors, including Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, and Andrew Schulz, adding depth and excitement to the Miami underworld.

The film aims to explore the glittering surface and the underlying rot of mid-80s Miami, drawing inspiration from the television series that fundamentally shaped the decade’s culture and visual style. It’s a deep dive into the glamour and the corruption that existed beneath the surface of that era.

Production is set to kick off in November, with Kosinski planning to capture the epic scope of the action using IMAX cameras in both New York and Miami. The historical backdrop of the film is set to unfold with high-definition intensity, promising a visual experience that captures the energy of the 80s.
