Watch the Full Trailer for The Mosquito Bowl
A cinematic epic, steeped in the drama of war and legendary sports history, is set to hit theaters soon: Peter Berg’s new film, The Mosquito Bowl, is gearing up for release in cinemas in just over two weeks.
This highly anticipated production marks a significant collaboration, establishing the first partnership between Netflix and AMC theaters since the release of KPop Demon Hunters. The film will offer audiences a unique viewing experience, offering access to the story in select AMC locations nationwide, along with other venues, beginning on October 30th.
The rollout strategy is designed to maximize excitement. After its theatrical debut, viewers will have nearly four weeks to dive into the narrative before the film streams exclusively on Netflix on November 25th.
At the heart of the story is a group of four celebrated 1940s college football players who find themselves thrust into the brutal reality of the Pacific theater when they enlist in the Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Their journey takes them into the crucible of combat, training for the devastating invasion of Okinawa on the island of Guadalcanal.
The film culminates in a legendary football game that pits these men against their adversaries. This pivotal match features some of the greatest players in college football history, a contest shadowed by staggering losses, as fifteen of the sixty-five participants tragically died within the course of the conflict.
The ensemble cast brings gravitas to the unfolding drama. The quartet is portrayed by established talents, including Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis. The screenplay, skillfully adapted by Peter Berg and Mark L. Smith, who worked on The Revenant, draws upon the compelling narrative of Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger’s bestseller.
