When is Moana live-action on Disney+

A New Voyage Awaits: Disney’s Live-Action Moana Celebrates Community Spirit

Get ready to set sail! Disney is preparing to bring the beloved animated adventure, Moana, to the big screen in a live-action reimagining. This epic tale of courage and the ocean is set to arrive on Disney+ on October 21, 2026, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the journey of the demigod and the wayfinder.

The story follows the unforgettable duo as they answer the Ocean’s call, embarking on a grand voyage beyond the reef of their home, Motunui. Featuring Catherine Lagaʻaia as the spirited Moana and Dwayne Johnson stepping into the role of the swaggering demigod Maui, the film promises an unforgettable quest to restore prosperity to their people.

This cinematic adaptation faithfully follows the core narrative, tracking Moana and Maui on their journey as they navigate the vast ocean to save their island home.

To celebrate the upcoming premiere, Disney is teaming up with Heal the Bay, a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to keeping coastal waters clean, for a special community event. Hundreds of volunteers and their families are invited to join a Moana-themed beach cleanup on Saturday, October 17, at Santa Monica Beach.

Participants will have the chance to roll up their sleeves and help keep the coast clean with a special cleanup, followed by a performance led by Moana choreographer and associate producer Tiana Nonosina Liufau. The event will also feature photo opportunities and giveaways, turning a celebration into an act of community stewardship.

While anticipation builds for the film, discussions about the production have sparked varied opinions. Some critics have expressed mixed feelings about the live-action take, noting that they believe the original animated hit holds a unique place in cinematic history. However, the excitement remains high, with audiences eagerly awaiting their chance to experience this epic adventure on Disney+ later this month.
