Widow’s Bay Season 2 Cast Changes Bring New Laughs
Get ready for more laughter and perhaps some screams, because the acclaimed comedy-horror series Widow’s Bay is shaking up its cast ahead of Season 2. The series, which dives into the spooky, atmospheric world of a haunted Massachusetts island town, is making some major moves, promoting one of its standout guest performers to a full-time role.
Jeff Hiller is stepping up, transitioning from guest star to series regular as Dale. Hiller will be working closely with the cast and crew, playing a Town Hall staffer working under Mayor Tom Loftis. This promotion promises to bring even more of the panic-stricken, high-energy performances that made him such a fan favorite.
Hiller secured the role through a delightfully unexpected route. He connected with the show’s creator, Katie Dippold, back when they were in an improv group about twenty-five years ago. He sent in a self-tape without warning, and Dippold, after initially cautioning him that his character would face some dramatic peril, eventually agreed. It was a story that began with a script change and a very funny plea: “Do you mind if I don’t kill you?”
Hiller credits his extensive improv background for shaping the comedic breakdowns of Dale. He explained that his history with Dippold gave him a unique shorthand for the character’s dramatic moments. “She liked when I would melt down and scream,” Hiller shared. “The whole team would always make me do these dramatic monologues where I would end up screaming and crying on the ground. It was a funny bit. And when I read that, I was like, ‘Oh, she wants this.’”
The show Widow’s Bay has clearly resonated with audiences and critics, racking up a remarkable 19 Emmy nominations for its first season, making it the most-nominated new show of the year. The series stars a talented group, including Matthew Rhys, Stephen Root as fisherman Wyck, Kate O’Flynn as Patricia, Dale Dickey as Rosemary, and Kevin Carroll as Sheriff Bechir.
While the creative team keeps the details of Season 2 under wraps, the anticipation remains high. The finale of the first season left viewers with a massive cliffhanger, and fans are now eagerly waiting to see how this compelling story unfolds in the next chapter.
