LAIKA Unveils the Enchanted Wilderness in New Feature, Wildwood

The magic of LAIKA is back, and this time, they are venturing into an uncharted, enchanted domain. The full trailer for Wildwood has officially dropped, promising a lush, mysterious adventure that builds on the studio’s acclaimed catalogue of fantastical storytelling.

This new feature marks the sixth film produced by LAIKA, bringing the directorial talent of Travis Knight, known for the critically adored Kubo and the Two Strings, and the sharp scripting of Chris Butler, celebrated for works like ParaNorman and Missing Link, to the screen. The project is based on the imaginative novel by Colin Meloy.

The story unfolds in a picturesque, Portland-set environment, where the ordinary world gives way to something far more enchanting. It follows the journey of Prue McKeel and her best friend Curtis as they step into a hidden, enchanted forest—a place known only to the original settlers as the impassable wilderness.

But the wilderness holds more than just beautiful scenery; it is a repository of deep secrets. As Prue and Curtis navigate the depths of the woods, they encounter a world governed by ancient, wild forces that wish to keep outsiders away from its mysteries. The central conflict is intensified when Prue’s baby brother, Mac, disappears, taken by a mysterious woman named Alexandra and a menacing flock of murder crows deep within the forest.

The casting for this ambitious tale brings a stellar ensemble of talent to the project. The voices of Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amanda Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits, and Richard E.
