Christopher Abbott is bringing a dose of hopeful anticipation to the world of Marvel, eyeing the upcoming adaptation of the X-Men franchise. Stepping into the role of Professor Charles Xavier, the actor compared his current experience to his previous foray into the Marvel cinematic universe, finding the promise of this new project significantly brighter than his prior work.

During a recent discussion on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Abbott spoke candidly about his excitement for the new film and his preparation for the demanding role. Despite the buzz surrounding the project, the actor revealed that he has not yet read the full screenplay for the Jake Schreier-directed movie.

However, the process of preparation was anything but passive. Abbott engaged with the material remotely via Zoom, reading for the role using scripts that may not have been finalized, followed by practical tests, including costume fittings. He described the scenes as very human and a genuine acting challenge that allowed him to explore the depth of the character.

This immersion in the material offered a stark contrast to his experience on the 2024 film Kraven the Hunter, where he played The Foreigner. Abbott recalled feeling a profound lack of understanding during that production.

“I didn’t know what I was doing in that day,” he shared. “I didn’t understand what the power was, what the superpower was. I didn’t know what was going on.”

The contrast highlights Abbott’s enthusiasm for the upcoming venture. While the experience with Kraven the Hunter felt confusing, the approach to the X-Men role is defined by connection and genuine exploration.

Abbott expressed strong confidence in the creative team, noting his excitement about working with director Jake Schreier and praising the caliber of the cast. He reiterated his certainty that the upcoming project will be a far more rewarding experience.

“I’m not even being coy, I haven’t read anything,” he stated, conveying his excitement. “But I’m excited to work with Jake Schreier, I think he’s a great director and that cast is really, really good. I can’t wait, I love the X-Men.”

Ultimately, Abbott’s message is one of sincere optimism for the future of the franchise, guaranteeing that his time in the X-Men universe will be better than any prior attempt.
