Amber Wilkinson takes Sarajevo top prize
The international film world is buzzing with the latest accolades, and this year, the Heart of Sarajevo prize shone a particularly bright light on a compelling psychological drama. Sandra Wollner’s film, Everytime, was crowned the winner for Best Narrative Fiction at the recent Sarajevo Film Festival.
This recognition wasn’t an isolated event; the film had already made waves at the most prestigious international showcases. Earlier in the year, Everytime had already garnered the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes, setting a high bar for the festival season.
The jury, which included stars like Emily Watson and celebrated filmmakers, offered glowing praise for the work. They described the film as a mesmerically elastic and transcendental grief-soaked ghost story, underscoring its deep emotional resonance and artistic complexity. The prize, which carries a 16,000 euro purse, acknowledged the profound storytelling embedded in the drama.
The panel of judges featured a distinguished group, including director Igor Bezinović, actress Sara Klimoska, European Film Academy CEO/director Matthijs Wouter Knol, and Greek filmmaker Athina Rachel Tsangari, all lending significant weight to the jury’s decision.
The success of the festival extended beyond narrative fiction. Other films also secured major honors, with To Hold A Mountain won the highly coveted Documentary Prize.
The awards also recognized exceptional talent across the board. Ana Urushadze received the Directing gong for her supporting role, while the acting prizes celebrated newcomers Eva Kostić and Adrian Văncică. Kostić won for her performance in You Don’t Belong Here, which brought home the top prize at the Locarno Film Festival.
These victories highlight the incredible diversity and depth of cinematic storytelling emerging from across Europe, proving that powerful, emotionally complex narratives continue to captivate global audiences and critics alike.
