Chris Hansen stars in ad after rejecting A24 screening invite
The world of crime thrillers is gearing up for a big release, and the star pulling the strings is one of the most infamous names in true crime television. Chris Hansen is set to star in the upcoming A24 movie Primetime, a gritty crime thriller that also features the popular actor Robert Pattinson.
But the promotion for the film is less about action sequences and more about the star’s own unique brand. Hansen, best known for his reality TV series To Catch a Predator and his reputation as The Predator Hunter, is front and center in the movie’s promotional campaign, starring in the preshow advertisement that will play before every screening.
The advertisement itself leans into Hansen’s established persona. It features him in a setting reminiscent of his television work, setting the stage for the film and introducing his streaming network, TruBlu. In the ad, Hansen addresses the audience directly, noting the increasing number of platforms where disturbing crimes are being committed, and invites viewers to join him undercover on his network.
Despite this high-profile promotional involvement, Hansen has maintained a carefully distanced relationship with the actual film. While he purchased the advertising rights for the theatrical run, he chose to steer clear of viewing the movie itself.
This decision was rooted in legal concerns. Hansen indicated that he was required to sign an agreement that prohibited him from pursuing any legal action against A24 regarding the film. When asked about this move, Hansen explained that the legal team wanted him to sign away his rights to his name, image, and brand, along with any potential legal rights that might arise from the movie.
“I couldn’t sign that, so they didn’t show me the film,” Hansen stated in an interview. He added that he felt it was simply not the right path for him to sign away his personal rights. It was a decision that prioritized personal autonomy over cinematic exposure.
Primetime is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 25, 2026.
