Disney+ scrapped live-action Gargoyles
Some classics don’t get the ending they deserve. Just weeks after news of a new Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series being shelved at Disney+, the world of the brooding, stone-faced protectors of New York City—Gargoyles—has also found its final curtain call in the live-action realm.
The news sends a shiver through fans who had long dreamed of seeing the mystical story of the nocturnal creatures who turn to stone and guard the city in flesh and blood. Three years ago, there were hopes that the beloved animated series would translate to the big screen, promising a live-action adventure for Disney+.
However, those hopes were ultimately dashed. Series creator Greg Weisman confirmed that the project was no longer moving forward, citing a lack of plans for a live-action adaptation.

Visionaries like Jordan Peele reportedly pitched a film to Disney in 2018, and names like Kenneth Branagh were rumored to be attached to the directorial role, but these dreams ultimately faded.
Though the live-action series has been scrapped, the legacy of Gargoyles endures. The animated series has cultivated a passionate fanbase that has kept the story and characters vibrant for three decades, proving that some stories, regardless of their format, possess an undeniable staying power.
